Kat Lawson, MA, LPC, NCC, CMFT
My philosophy of counseling is that every person is unique and their experiences shape their view of the world. The process of individuation is essential in order for a person to become whole and fully developed as his, her, or their 'true self.' I believe empathy, collaboration and validation are key to the counseling relationship. The person as NOT the problem, rather, the problem is the problem. In the counseling relationship we will focus on strengths and mindfully and collaboratively awaken awareness of the authentic self to free clients of negative learned beliefs. The goal is for you to have a satisfactory life.
I received a Master's Degree in Counseling in 2014 from UAB and a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 1984 from Auburn University. Some of my counseling emphasis' are personality disorders, autism issues and mood disorders including major depression, anxiety and bipolar disorders. I am LGBTQ+ affirming and autism affirming.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Nationally Certified Counselor. I am a Certified Marriage and Family Therapist. I believe all people are precious and deserve to live a life of fearless authenticity. I'm a little nutty, but I have the deepest empathy for those who are struggling. Let's tackle what holds you back from being free to live happily.
